Tempered Glass – Exceptional Durability and Safety The roof and walls of the Royal Green Standard are made of 4 mm thick tempered glass, which allows an abundance of natural light to pass through, creating excellent conditions for plant growth. Due to its unique properties and manufacturing process, tempered glass is much more resistant to impacts than ordinary glass or plastic. The tempering process involves heating the glass to a very high temperature (about 600 °C) and then rapidly cooling it, creating external and internal layers of tension that enhance its durability. In the event of an impact, the compressive stress on the surface makes it difficult for cracks to form and spread. Conversely, the internal tensile stress absorbs and dissipates force within the glass, reducing the risk of damage. Unlike ordinary glass, tempered glass has a more cohesive internal structure, increasing its resistance. Moreover, even if tempered glass breaks, it shatters into small, relatively harmless pieces instead of sharp, jagged shards.
